Asthma - new study on the effects of CBD

More than 15 million people across the EU suffer from asthma, many of them also deal with a very severe form of COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Most people with asthma already experience symptoms as early as childhood, and it often starts as an allergic reaction. This reaction can be caused by grasses and flowers, i.e. by pollen. Also, animal hair like that of cats and dogs, or dust mites in your home can cause asthma. Studies have shown that people who live in cities, smoke, or are exposed to high levels of dust are more likely to develop asthma than people on the countryside. Battling asthma can become more difficult as you age, and what started out as a simple allergy can develop into a chronic disease. Treatment for asthma many times involves strong medication, which can further weaken an already stressed immune system. However, a study from Brazil gives hope that CBD can possibly slow the progression of bronchial asthma.

CBD for inflammation

It is already known from several studies that cannabidiol has an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Inflammation is the body's reaction to harmful stimuli such as pollen. The inflammation of the respiratory tract induces pain, swollen bronchi, and shortness of breath. During an asthma attack, people experience anxiety, coughing, and a wheeze-like sound that comes from their lungs.

Scientist conducted a test based on current scientific knowledge, investigating how CBD impacts asthmatic attacks. Once your body absorbs CBD, CBD receptors recognize that they are supposed to reduce inflammation. The study has shown that even small doses of CBD have a soothing effect on the respiratory tract. At higher doses CBD even improved lung compliance, which helped with the breathing. Inflammation parameters taken from lungs of the subjects showed a decreased inflammation both in the lungs and the alveoli while the CBD receptors were active. This is very good news for asthmatics because it could mean that CBD has a positive impact on the course of asthma.
